Writing Workshop For Artists - How To Write About Your Artwork
Date: Monday July 27th
Time: 17:30 - 20:00
Who is this for: Artists looking to articulate their work professionally and authentically
Supplies to bring: A personal notebook, writing utensils, and one small piece of your artwork
How do you write about a piece of art? How do you talk about your own artwork? And how do you translate an image, a material, or a gut feeling into words—all while staying true to your unique, authentic voice?
In the contemporary art world, words are an inseparable part of the creative practice. Artists are constantly required to articulate themselves: in conversations with curators, in artist statements, in exhibition texts, and in residency or grant applications. Writing is an essential practice for anyone wanting to communicate their inner world to the public, refine their artistic identity, and ensure they are understood.
In this experiential and practical one-time workshop, we will explore the relationship between words and imagery, language and material. Through structured exercises, reading inspiring texts, and shared discussion, you will gain practical tools for clear, authentic writing.
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a professional artist statement.
What we will cover:
Develop and refine writing skills tailored specifically for visual artists and creators.
Explore the fascinating connection between word, material, and image.
Practice personal and creative writing through a welcoming, step-by-step sequence of exercises.
Use self-reflection and inquiry to deepen your creative processes back in the studio.
